Chapter10

In this chapter, Forrest just followed jenny’s letter about the name of the little place where she played with her band. The band name is Cracked Eggs. He tried to walk there at first, after losing he took a taxi. When he was there, except several drunk guys there was nobody in the club. So he was there waiting for jenny. Then three or four fellers got the electric stuff set up. All sorts of colored lights were flashing and music sounded like jet airplane is arounded. At that time, a light is focused on one stage corner, there was jenny. Her hair is all the way down to the ass and she also weared sunglasses during the night. She wears a weird shirt with so many sponges on it looks like a telephobe switchboard. She begun to sing but the band is playing too lound, the drums, piano and also the electric guitars.

Later on Forrest wanted to find jenny in the backstage during the break. He failed and what he was wearing, army uniform make him feeling like he is an adiot again. So he just walked outside the club. When he wanted to get in again, there is really a long line waiting there. So this time he cannot be in the front seat, but just at the back of the club. He got his harmonica out and started to play it together with the band. Suddenly, door opened and jenny was standing there. It is really dark but jenny asked who is that. It is me. Forrest answered.

Then they set down talking about jenny’s recent things. It sounds like she is too unlucky. She met five or four guys, some guy is married; some guy is making bombs and stuff; someone is really weird. She was asked to quit from school also because she was found in some feller’s room one night. Jenny had gone out to California for a wile and weared flowers in her hair. (There is one famous song is according to this part).

After that she joined in this Cracked Eggs band and met another guy in Harward University in philosophy. He invited Forrest to attend in one of his class about Role of the idiot in World Literature. And asked Forrest to play a role as a Foolish person during the class. But these kind of things is really usual for Forrest. And it seems Forrest didn’t get angry about that.

During that time, a fellor from New York listened their band’s music and wanted to help them make a tape including jenny and the band and also Forrest. Later Jenny broke up with that harward University guy and really sad. Forrest and jenny went to for supper but jenny talked a string of gripes about men:selfish, lazy, unresponsible, blabla. She was crying and then they went back to home.

When they went home, something happened which really changed the rest life of Forrest. The author spends half page to describe it. Later on things are a little bit different between jenny and Forrest. They sleep together though kind of strang for Forrest.

This chapter is really important for Forrest Gump. At the end of the film we will know how important this part is.

Chapter9

Forrest came to the capital of china in this chapter as a pingpong player of america. Forrest found people in china are really polite, neat and clean. American State Department assigned a feller Mister Wilkins to tell the players how to behave around the Chinese. It seems like this guy always can find something wrong on Forrest and teach him all the time such as “when a Chinaman bow to you, you gotta bow back.  Gump, you gotta quit adjustin yoursef in public.  Gump, what are them stains on your trousers?  Gump…” However, Forrest cannot understand him well and don’t like him also.

It is really hard for Forrest to eat chinese food using two little sticks in stead of fork. He always drop some dirty things onto his cloth, so he suggest chinese to use fork in stead of forks. One day Forrest and other players wanted to go to a restaraunt for a Beijing duck. Forrest forgot the address so he took a taxi. I think sometimes he is clever, he knows in a forein country under this situation he should take a taxi. He don’t know chinese so we can imagin the driver of course cannot understand him. So he just drive around the Beijing city. Times flied fast, Forrest knew he should get there fast. So he use his body language try to let the driver understand him. He flaps his arms like they are ducks’ wings. The driver smiles then, and start nodding and drive off, when the car stopped, Forrest found that he was in front of the airport. He is hungry, so he stopped finding the restaraunt just pick up one randomly and choose 4 or 5 randomly on the menu. He is so luck all of them have very good taste. After that he tried to walk back to the hotel. On the way back, a chinese police saw him and misunderstand him as a spy so sent him to a jail. The next day Mister Wilkins came and takes Forrest out.  After that Mister Wilkins put a label in Forrest pocket which say who is he and where he was living.

Chapter8

Forrest fly back to america. During the flight, Colonel Gooch told him that they would be treated as heros when they got back to the United States. People would turn out for parades and everybody want to buy them a drink or a meal.

When they landed at the airport at Dan Francisco, a big crowd of people were waiting them.  However, instead of greeting them, some guy throwed a big tomato that hit Colonel Gooch in the face. Then all hell break loose. They were running towards them shouting and hollering all kinds of nasty things. Finally, whey they got onto the other plane to Wsahington. They walked to the seats, before they took off, all the people around them standed up and went to set somewhere else far away from them. They guessed it because they smell funny or something.

When they finanlly arrived at Washington, things turned better. The army sent a car to pick up them to a real nice hotel. Thus Forrest took the elevator the first time in his life. Colonel asked Forrest to go to a bar with him and said girls there are really pretty. But it seems they were not welcome at that bar. No girl want to talk to them and said bad things to them.

The other day they went to the White House to see the president who is come from Texas. It is a lot of people’s dream to visit white house and especially with the president as the guide. Then they ate breakfast together with the president. After that, the president showed him around in white house. Druing their talk, president showed his big old scar on his stomach to Forrest and asked whether he has one also. Well, I think you can guess what happened later on. Yeah, Forrest pull down his pants and show President. All photographer fellers rush up and take pics. Forrest then on the first page of newspapers showing his big ass and the president is showing his scar. The caption say,’President and War Hero relaxing in the Rose Garden.’ What a funny image.  This kind of things is really normal to Forrest, he is used to it.

Even this thing happen, Forrest as a hero still have lots of things to do. He was asked to give speech around US. You know, it is really hard for them to remember a long speech paper. What he can remember only is one sentence:’Join the army and fight for your freedom.’ You can imagine what would going on. He got trouble. Forrest was sent to a steam heat company. After that, he was asked to take part in a pingpong game and he winned at last. He came back to the company and known that he can join the US pingpong team to go to china for contest. Things happened on Forrest turns more and more unbelievable. But it is really a big honor to Forrest.

Chapter7

Forest is at the hospital in this chapter. He received a bag of Hershey bar from his mother. He wanted to share them with his roommate Dan, but unfortunately Dan can’t eat anything except what going into him through the tube. Forrest thinks that setting there talking to Dan was a thing that had a great impression on his life. He thinks others treat him like a idiot just because they never took the time to talk to him and know his philosophy. Dan’s philosophy is that everything anywhere is controlled by the nature laws which govern the universe. His views were extremely complicated, but the gist of what he say begun to change Forrest’s whole outlook on things. What Forrest did before is just waiting and watching things happened on him and do nothing. But Dan told him it is all part of scheme of some sort, and the best way is to figure out how we fits into the scheme which make things clearer for Forrest.

Later on Forrest gets better on his ass and plays pingpong with the other guys. After the first several points lossing, he beated all the other guys and play better and better. He was told he can leave the hospital then he walked to a market which sells fish, shrimp and some staff like this. He asked on seller where did he get these shrimps. later on that guy guided Forrest to there. That warm hearted guy shows Forrest how to get shrimp and give him some and Forrest also give some Hershey back to this guy. He is dreaming of quit the army and get his own shrimp boat.

Chapter6

The battle is still going on. They use machine gun and also hand grenade. They set up everything in a big old tree in one minute before the enemy find them then they hide themselves up until it was dark. During this, two guys are dead. AndDoyle still breathing, so he grap him up and throw him over his shoulder like a flour sack and start running through the brush towards Charlie Company. He was running for maybe twenty yards and bullets wizzing all around him from being, Forrest was shot in the ass then. He keeps running and running as what he did in the football team. During the night Forrest played the harmonica, some memories were brought back. Since somebody  were hurt and dead, so Forrest was asked to be the machine gunner and also need to carry the other things. Things are very primative in the jungle–no place to shit, sleep on the ground like an animal. By the way, during all these Forrest got one letter per week from his mother and he writes back that things goes very well here and everybody treats him better. And also she writes to Jenny but never heard back. Then one of his partner has got a plan for when they get out of the army they can get a shrimp boat and get in the shrimp bussiness since Bubba work on shrimp boats all his life. Bubba calculate how many pounds of shrimp to pay off the loan and how many to pay off the gas. What Forrest thinking is he can eat the shrimp also at the back of the boat but was denied by Bubba unless they start to make profit. One day Bubba was hurt and missed, so Forrest went to find him. On his way he saw another people hurt so he picked him up and run quickly and sent him to a safe place then he went to find Bubba again. Bubba was been hit twice in the chest and Forrest told him it gonna be okay, cause they gotta get that shrimp boat. Then he carry him back to where they set up and layed him on the ground. Bubba then asked Forrest to play the harmonica for him so Forrest did it, meanwhile a terrible shooting was still going on.

Chapter5

Forrest got an A in Intermediate Light but he got a F in physics-class.His coach feels sorry for Forrest’s leave. All his team members come up one by one shake his hand and say goodbye. Forrest’s mama was really upset because he was asked to join the army finally. Forrest feels like the people in the army never happy and also the food afforded there are terrible. He was asked to be the cooker for two hundreds men. He did it really slow so all the people beating on the table using forks and knives like in a prison riot. He cooked the food using boiler and it blew up finally and blowing some guys right through a wall. They were sent to somewhere far from where they were and got a critical training there. Guard some area whole day without breakfast and lunch. later on the food given to them was dated 1951. Then they were asked to go to another place to help another beigade that is catching in the jungle. some guys and there commander asked Forrest carry their things also and Forrest did it.

Chapter 4

Football training is continuring like usual. The only one thing attracts Forrest is the harmonica. He shows a Genus ability is this area and he cannot stop it once he begins it. He really enjoyed playing it. After dressed up, Forrest went to hear Jenny’s band show in the Univ. And Forrest pulled out his harmonica and played it along with them which surprises everyone and they all clap and cheer for him. Later jenny asked Forrest to play with their band.

What’s more. A Doctor from the University Medical Center give Forrest a body check and then told him bring his harmonica and play in front of his class. The Doctor said Forrest is an idiot but he can play the harmonica very well. Yeah, it is for his research or teaching purpose, but it does hurt Forrest’s heart. One more thing unlucky is Forrest found that jenny loves one of their band’s member which make him feel bad. So his focus turns back onto the football contest. This time is the National football contest.

Chapter 3

This time Forest was sent to a really dirty room and was told he would have a roommate also has as much brains as a eggplant. He throw something onto the dirt and then went to sleep. In his dream, he met his mother. At this time, someone suddenly open the door and scared him then. The first look of his roommate to Forest is really bad:”With a wild look on the face, eyes all bugged out, no teeth in front, nose look like a yellow squash,and his hair standing staight up.”

Then all the football team start to exercising and Forest didn’t even know how to play moreover even don’t know where is his goaline. Therefore, he did a bad job and was asked to run for 5 cycles by his team member. However, his coachBryant is a really good person. He always smlies and says sth to encourage Forrest. But this doesn’t work. Meanwhile, Forrest remembers what his mother told him when he was young:”Forrest, you got to be careful, cause they gonna put you away.” Most time, Forrest will done his best. He can’t understand his roommate very well but one time he figures out a problem his roommate met, but the way his roommate feedback is not good which ruin their relationship and make Forrest want to change another place to live.

 Then Forrest entered the Univ. and no one deems that Forrest will have any good performance in the class. But what he done is really surprising everyone one. He got good grades on Intermdiate light which is a graduate level in physics major and also done a good job on English class. And later on there is a chance Forrest had learned how to play mouth organ and the first time he do it, he do it very well, which also change his life later on. Because his favorite girl likes music and also sings in a band.

Chapter 2

Forest and all the other football team members went to a small town for a football banquet. After several hours driving, Forest really wants to have a pee. However the zipper is struck in his shirttial with time limited he must get out to the auditorium for prizes and speech after get the prize. When it is his turn, everybody stand up and clapping&cheering for him cause he is a idiot. He was shocked by this so that what he said is :” I want to pee.” Even though more and more people sent letters to him and said an idiot got himself on the All State football team.

Then someone wants him to play football in a university and make a previous test on him but unfortunately his score is too low. Then he was asked to take into the army. He was told to remove his cloth and someone jam his finger up to his ass which make him unhappy, so Forest knocked him upside his head. Then for the same reason, take part into the army was defered. Then things like this happens on Forest again and again(he was thowed to jail), but fortunately, the results are not too bad then.

There is one image impress me deeply. Forest’s mama stands there, crying and wiping her eyes with her handkerchief.  His mama always worried about him and do as much as her can to protect her son which impress me deeply.

Forrest Gump–Chapter 1

I have read the chapter 1 of Forrest Gump last week. The most different thing from what I read before is the author uses lots of informal characters which have same pronounciations but different spelling. At the very beginning of the reading brings me some trouble.

The author describes as first person and at the very beginning it has already tells me that what kind of person is Forrest like. Reader will think he is a little bit stupid or maybe people call him idiot. People around him always unfriendly to him or even hit him so on so forth. He is afraid of them and won’t say anything at the beginning, but I have a strong feeling that he has something to say inside his heart. However, only one girl Jenny treats him better. He studies in a “nut school”, but one coach transfer him to a normal school later because he wants Forrest join in a football team. Everything seems better. But some bad guys said he is a dumbo and pour the milk in Forrrest’s laptop and those bad guys chases him then Forrest runs away as quickly as possible which helps Forrest figures out the way to play better in the football team and also make the coach happy. Sometime later someone do bad thing on Forrest again but Forrest fight back to him. He starts to fight back those bad guys and don’t scare anymore although make her mother sad but he is right as my concern.
